Food Programs

Delicious and nutritious

Our food programs have been developed with the assistance of a dietician/nutritionist and incorporates the freshest seasonal ingredients. During early childhood, children are growing rapidly and developing new skills so the requirement for good nutrition is at a peak.

The framework for our program is based on the National Childcare Accreditation Council (NCAC) Quality Improvement and Accreditation System based on ACECQA and local council registered Class A facilities.

Child Care

Through our food program, we aim to teach children about healthy eating while meeting their nutritional needs. Children regularly use the centre veggie patch to pick the fruit and vegetables that may be required for that day’s meals. At Community Children staff have incorporated a kitchen garden program.

Breakfast and lunch, as well as morning and afternoon teas and a late snack are all provided, and each meal is prepared on-site by our cook, in our purpose-built kitchen facilities. Good nutrition integrates a wide variety of foods from all food groups required for normal growth and generates health and wellbeing, including dental health.

Meal times are a wonderful experience shared by both children and staff as they set up tables just like they would at home. Children and staff dine together and enjoy conversations about healthy eating habits, ingredients the cooks have used in the meal etc. Our menus are rotated on a weekly basis and displayed so you can always see what your children will be enjoying throughout their day.

At Community Children, we believe that children who are properly nourished will be the ones who grow and develop to their highest potential.

Kindergarten

Good nutrition integrates a wide variety of foods from all food groups required for normal growth and general health and wellbeing, including dental health.

In preparation for school, the children use a school lunch box from term three onwards to familiarise them with the school routine and further develop independent eating.

Lunch, as well as morning and afternoon teas, are provided for the kindergarten children and each meal is prepared on-site by a cook using our modern kitchen facilities.

We aim to ensure that meal times are something children look forward to! Through our kindergarten food program, we teach children about healthy eating while meeting their nutritional needs through a carefully balanced diet. Our menus are rotated on a weekly basis and displayed for all families.

At Community Children our teachers facilitate a kitchen garden program where children harvest and pick fruit and vegetables to be used in the daily meals.
